AROI Karnataka congratulates Dr. Shirley Lewis, Professor and Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, MAHE, on completing the AROI 35–40 Years International Fellowship, at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), from 1 to 28 May 2026.
During the fellowship, Dr. Lewis worked in the laboratory of Dr. Julian Hong, where she gained first-hand exposure to a range of ongoing artificial intelligence projects in radiation oncology. She also presented her team’s work on an AI-based multilingual chatbot for supportive care in head and neck cancer, an innovation with real potential for patients across India’s many languages.
Dr. Lewis also spent time in the gastrointestinal oncology clinics with Dr. Alex Hotca Cho, exchanging ideas on GI cancers and future research in hepatocellular carcinoma. She looks forward to building on this experience through active collaboration between the two institutions.
This fellowship reflects AROI’s commitment to supporting its members in gaining international exposure and building global research partnerships. We congratulate Dr. Lewis on this achievement and look forward to the collaborations it will bring to radiation oncology in Karnataka.
